Face Bar on the ground floor opens onto the extensive terrace and lawns with seating outside, where guests can take their ease. This area is ideal for cocktails, coffee, high teas. The manner in which the space is divided with screening, raised floor areas and the variety of seating means that small or large groups find it pleasant, intimate and interesting with the opportunity to see and be seen. The interior is rich in high quality arts and artifacts presenting a high status experience. An early decision was taken to furnish these spaces with antique Chinese furniture. These are the Qing dynasty chairs and ornately carved beds on which guests can relax with a refreshing ‘Chinese Whisper’ or ‘Shanghai Blues’ cocktail. In Frank Drake’s words, the Face interior openly draws in the culture and history of China and expresses our pleasure at being in China.
